Theme Parks with Kids
Packing Essentials

The BANZ® guide to packing for long lines, bright sun, splash zones, parades, fireworks, and all the big moments that make theme park days unforgettable.

Theme park days are exciting, but they are also full days of sensory input: music, rides, crowds, bright pavement, long waits, sudden announcements, water rides, shows, and fireworks. For kids, that can be magical and overwhelming at the same time.

A strong theme park bag helps you stay ahead of the day. Sun protection, hearing protection, water, snacks, and comfort items should be easy to reach before the environment becomes too hot, too loud, or too much.

"The best theme park bag is the one that lets you solve small problems before they become the reason the day falls apart."

Theme Parks Are Loud, Bright, and Long

Theme parks are not one environment. They are a mix of outdoor heat, indoor shows, ride queues, music, parades, restaurants, fireworks, splash zones, and crowded walkways. The right essentials help kids stay comfortable through the whole day — not just the first few hours.

🎢  The loudest moments are often the least planned

Families often expect fireworks to be loud, but shows, parades, ride queues, indoor attractions, live performances, and crowded restaurants can also become overwhelming. Child-sized earmuffs are easiest to use when they are packed at the top of the bag, not left in the hotel room.

See Why Hearing Protection Matters at Theme Parks

Theme park days can shift quickly from fun to overwhelming when rides, crowds, music, shows, and fireworks all come together. This video helps show why packing hearing protection before the day starts makes sense for little ears.

What You're Packing For

🎠

Rides & Queues

Long waits, sun exposure, indoor sound effects, announcements, and close crowds while kids are already tired.

🎆

Parades & Fireworks

Music, cheering crowds, surprise noise, fireworks, and late-night excitement when kids have the least reserve left.

💦

Splash Zones

Water rides, splash pads, wet clothes, sun reapplication, and the need for quick-dry comfort between activities.

The BANZ® Theme Park Checklist

  • Earmuffs for shows, parades, rides, and fireworks. Keep them easy to reach for loud attractions, indoor queues, evening shows, and sudden sound effects.
  • UV400 sunglasses. Bright pavement, open walkways, and long outdoor waits can be hard on children’s eyes.
  • A UPF 50+ sun hat. Hats help during stroller time, outdoor lines, parade waits, and long walks between areas.
  • UPF 50+ swimwear or quick-dry layers. Useful for splash zones, water rides, hotel pools, and hot weather park days.
  • Sunscreen that is easy to reapply. Pack a lotion and a face stick so you can reapply quickly in line or during snack breaks.
  • Water and familiar snacks. Waiting is harder when kids are hungry, hot, or overstimulated.
  • A reset plan. Know where you can take a quieter break before the day gets too intense.

Use Protection Before the Meltdown Moment

Theme parks are easier when you use protective gear early. Sunglasses before the sun feels too bright. Hats before the line has no shade. Earmuffs before the show begins. Sunscreen before the shoulders turn pink.

For sensory-sensitive kids, the goal is not to avoid the fun. It is to give them tools that help them stay comfortable enough to enjoy more of the day.

  • Put earmuffs on before fireworks or parades start. It is easier than trying to add them once a child is already startled.
  • Let kids choose their sunglasses or earmuff color. The more ownership they feel, the less resistance you usually get.
  • Build breaks into the plan. A calm snack break can save the afternoon.
